Educate yourself to the principles of a hair transplant before you have a hair transplant.
A hair transplant is the placement of hair from one area of the scalp to another area. Because of genetics it will not suffer from Male Pattern Baldness...............

Does this mean it is suitable for everyone?
Before your first procedure you must think of the long term planning to achieve the best result. There are many factors to consider when planning hair restoration, age, degree of thinning, rate of loss, hair characteristics, donor density, scalp laxity, styling preferences and your long term goals and expectations.

A man with Class 3/3V or just with minimal crown balding is hard to determine how quickly and how extensive the hair loss may become, especially if he is in his 20's. A large single session to dense pack the areas may not be the best option, this may hasten hair loss via effluvium, or the hair loss could accelerate during the growth period of the new hair. If the donor area is limited and thinning progresses rapidly he could find yourself unable to have a further procedure or very limited in terms of the size. In this case it may be sensible to have multiple procedures to follow the progression of the hair loss, and to maximise the effectiveness of the donor area.

In more advanced stages of thinning, say Class 4 or 5 and above, a large single session may be the best option as the rate of hair loss is more progressed. A session, 4500 FU + can recreate a hairline to frame the face, mid central areas and a thinner crown coverage may be possible in some cases, if the hair characteristics are good. This result could stand on its own, with a perfectly natural appearance, even with a thinner crown.

A man moving towards Class 5 and above needs to appreciate that complete hair line to crown coverage with a high density is unlikely without compromising the donor area. If this is the case the technique used to maximise the donor area potential is important, this will enable more choices in the long term and still maintain a healthy donor area.

Men with rapid loss in the earlier stages, or who have seen an increase in shedding should possibly look to delay a transplant; and understand the need for multiple procedures over time. This can be regardless of age as hair loss can be unstable and be progressive well into our adult lives. Younger men with rapid hair loss should especially be wary, it is natual to want to get back to a stage of hair growth maybe a year ago, but if the rate of loss is fast this could use valuable donor hair that could be better used if they waited.

If the FU (Follicular Unit) density and hairs per FU are properly calculated, along with the hair characteristics the total number of follicular units at can be estimated with accuracy. This estimate can then be converted into the value of coverage with a natual density, based on the person’s characteristics, and this can be translated into the planning of the first hair transplant and looking also at future procedures. This is important because not all people will achieve the same result from the same amount of grafts and "3000 FU will give you “this” result for all" is not true.
